Below is the Uniform
Mitigation Verification Inspection Form:
In July of 2007
the following was adopted, by all insurance
underwriters in the State of Florida, as the
universally accepted Windstorm Mitigation
Verification form. The intent of the form is to
provide the opportunity for homeowners to have
qualifying features verified. The features
equate to discounts on the windstorm portion of
their homeowners insurance.
By qualifying the items on these forms the
insurer has a better understanding of how well
your home will respond to high winds and
hurricanes. The form is fairly straight forward
for a trained inspector who can identify which
components qualify. It is important to verify
all qualifying features as the credit is
calculated on the features as a whole.
It is equally important to only take credit for
qualifying items, as the insurance underwriter
is basing discounts on this form. Erroneous
information could potentially place the policy
holder in a compromised position in the event of
a claim. Make sure you choose your trained
professional carefully. Our inspectors are all
licensed architects whose job it is to
understand Florida Building Codes. Beware the
unqualified discount inspector.
Take a moment and review the form. You may be
able to answer some of the questions yourself.
It is obvious which features provide credits.
Most likely you are paying too much for your
insurance.
